All Saints Margaret Street.

Dear friends,

I am very pleased to announce a series of exciting developments in our Friends scheme, including the launch this autumn of the “American Friends of All Saints’, Margaret Street.”

This newly inaugurated project will aim to connect us better with our North American supporters, deepen friendship and fellowship across the Atlantic, and make financial support of All Saints’ easier and more tax efficient for American tax payers.

In particular, we will have up and running by the autumn a means whereby American tax payers will be able to count donations to All Saints’ as a valid tax deduction. If you are already a Friend of All Saints’ and live in America, it will be possible to transfer your membership to this new model if you wish. It also means that American tax payers will be able to claim the tax back off any financial gift to All Saints’ at any point.

To inaugurate this new and exciting venture, there will be an in person New York launch at 6.00 pm on Friday 20th September 2024 in St Joseph’s Hall at the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Times Square. This will take the form of an evening reception. I will be present with a small group of All Saints’ parishioners from London to speak about the life, work, and ministry of All Saints’.

I urge any supporters of All Saints’ who live in the New York area or who might be able to get to New York, to put this date in their diaries. I look forward hugely to meeting as many of our American Friends as possible. If you would like to attend the New York launch, please indicate your intention here on Eventbrite. Tickets are free and anyone who turns up on the night is more than welcome to attend without booking, but it is useful to have some idea beforehand of how many people to expect.

We are hugely grateful for the generosity of Fr Sammy Wood and the people of St Mary the Virgin for allowing us to use St Joseph’s Hall for this event. I will also have the honour of preaching at the 11.00 am Solemn Mass on Sunday 22nd September at St Mary the Virgin, and it will be good to deepen relationships with friends at our sister church in New York.

In the week before the New York launch of the American Friends, I will also be visiting St Timothy’s, Winton Salem, North Carolina, (the home of Fr Steve Rice) to preach and offer some parish teaching as part of a weekend mission. There will also be opportunities for people to learn more about the life and mission of All Saints’ during that time and details will emerge soon.

We are so grateful for all the support we receive from Friends who live outside the United Kingdom. My heartfelt desire is that this new development will deepen the bonds of love and prayer between All Saints’ and those members of our parish family who live in the United States. I hope that there will be more in person events in the future in different parts of the United States as our American Friends scheme grows.

Corpus Christi

I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to our celebration of Corpus Christi yesterday. The preaching, liturgy, music, and fellowship after the liturgy were all first rate. You can watch the whole liturgy again here – what a splendid celebration it was!

I am so grateful to all those who contributed in any way to the evening. Many thanks should go to our preacher, Fr Steve Rice. You can watch his wonderful homily here. It was an inspiring and fascinating sermon.

Thanks also go to Stevie Farr, our Director of Music, to Jeremiah Stephenson and Hamish Wagstaff on the organ, and to our whole choir for the magnificent music that made the liturgy so moving. Everyone coped very well with the nerves and uncertainty about whether it would rain or not, but we pulled the night’s musical logistics off with great aplomb!

Our servers were quite simply wonderful in the way they served the Mass so prayerfully and in such a well organised way – as were our band of stewards.

The parish party after the Mass was terrific and I am grateful to Kate Hodgetts and Chris Self for all the energy and concern that went into organising refreshments.

I am so pleased the High Mass and procession were live-streamed so those who cannot be with us in person were able to participate in the liturgy. Huge thanks go to Huw Pryce and Richard Everton for all the energy they put into the complicated task of broadcasting the service. We are all so grateful.

What a wonderful opportunity it was to celebrate God’s gift of himself to us in the Eucharist – Blessed be God in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar!

Walsingham National Pilgrimage

Many thanks to everyone who came on our day pilgrimage to Walsingham on Monday. It was a splendid occasion and clearly one of the best attended National Pilgirmages we have seen in a long while.

The day started with an outdoor Mass at 12 noon, followed by picnic lunches and then sermon by Archbishop Anglaeos with outdoor procession in the afternoon through the village. The afternoon finished with Benediction. Our bus was full and we hope to take more people next year, so watch this space for details about next year’s pilgrimage.

Hiking Day

A huge thank you goes to Fr Alan for organising a splendid rambling day trip out last Saturday to Hassocks. Our group covered 12 miles in all, which was exhausting but good fun – there were a few sore feet and a few sun burned faces on Sunday morning, but everyone was in good spirits! A splendid lunch was enjoyed together as part of the outing.

The flowers are given by Mark Fleming in memory of his mother, Gloria Fleming, on the first anniversary of her death on 3 June.
