ALL SAINTS FESTIVAL 2012

Dear Friends,
This is the most wonderful time of the year… and I encourage you to drop everything and come to church. We are in the midst of a fantastic season and festival where we celebrate the Saints, where we give thanks for the departed and take to heart the hope of the Resurrection and promise of new life in Christ. For some, this season of All Saints is a time where perception most strongly pointing to truth. For others, we are guided by the witness of generations past and even present. But for all of us, it is a time of great thanksgiving. What better season than this to contemplate how we can be true to our Christian Vocation and share in a life with the Saints in the worship of Almighty God. Lives which have been lived in hope and knowledge of Christ. Lives, now at rest in him who is Alpha and Omega, from who all things come.

On the Eve of All Saints, we sang the hymn, Joy and Triumph everlasting (229 NEH). Part of V.4 reads…
There the Saints, whose memories old, we in faithful hymns uphold,
Have forgot their bitter story In the joy of Jesu’s glory.

For the saints, however they have achieved that crown of glory, by comparison of living in the light of Christ, they have no doubt forgotten the bitter story which surrounded so many in their faith, their trying to do the right thing in following Christ. So this season invites and demands that we pick up the mantle from those of old, from our parents and grand-parents and bring to our generation something of the promise and hope of Christ.

We very much hope that you can join us over the coming days, For All Souls and for Festival Sunday.   If you are unable, please be assured that prayer is being offered for everyone associated with All Saints Margaret Street, for the suffering and the well, for the living and the departed.
Yours with the Saints and in Christ,
Fr. John

Congratulations to Aiden Hargreaves-Smith
In addition to his role as Registrar of the Diocese in Europe, Aiden has recently been appointed Registrar of the Diocese of Chelmsford. He will be sworn in on Saturday, 19th January 2013 at Chelmsford Cathedral by the Bishop of Chelmsford, who will preside at the Eucharist. The service will start at 12.00 noon, and will be followed by a Reception. Everyone associated with All Saints’ is warmly invited to attend. It would be helpful if those intending to be present could ‘RSVP’ to Melanie Tucker on chelmsfordregistry@wslaw.co.uk or 020 7593 0353, not least to ensure that the wine does not run out (a reputational risk which Aiden would never be prepared to take!).
