Lent Lecture tomorrow
Join us tomorrow, Thursday 23rd March at 7.30 pm, for our Lent Lecture given by the Revd Dr Ayla Lepine on the new National Gallery virtual exhibition, “Fruits of the Spirit: Art From the Heart”.
The exhibition, curated by Ayla, pairs nine pictures from the National Gallery’s collection with nine from partner institutions. The exhibition is inspired by Saint Paul’s description of the effects and fruits of the Spirit described in his Letter to the Galatians: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Ayla will explore the themes the artwork bring up, the theological questions they prompt, and the difference that online interaction with works of art makes.
Ayla Lepine is the Associate Rector at St James’s, Piccadilly. From 2021-22 she was Ahmanson Fellow in Religion and Art at the National Gallery. Her work includes teaching the King’s College London and National Gallery collaborative MA in Christianity and the Arts, and building diverse new networks within arts organisations and faith communities. Her MA and PhD at the Courtauld Institute of Art focused on the modern British responses to the Middle Ages, especially the Gothic Revival and Pre-Raphaelite movement.
This in-person lecture will also be live-streamed and available on our parish YouTube channel after the event here: https://www.youtube.com/@ASMS
