Dear friends,

The season in which we solemnly commemorate our communion with all those who rest in Christ continues in a different and particular way this weekend as we gather on Remembrance Sunday to remember those who have fallen in war and to give thanks for their sacrifice.

There will be a High Mass of Requiem at 10.55 am, sung to the wonderful setting by Gabriel Fauré. However, please note that the Mass will begin 5 minutes earlier than usual so that we are gathered and ready to keep the Two Minutes’ Silence at 11.00 am with the rest of the country. Make sure you arrive at church earlier than usual so the Two Minutes’ Silence is not disturbed.

The beginning of the liturgy will include a short Act of Remembrance and the Mass will finish with the National Anthem.

I particularly want to thank Anne Flanagan for sponsoring the cost of the music for our Remembrance Sunday Requiem. This is done in memory of her parents, William and Violet Sanders, both of whom were members of the Royal British Legion. We are very grateful to Anne for this generous donation.

Whilst the High Mass will be one of Requiem, the Low Masses at 6.30 pm on Saturday evening, and 8.30 am and 5.15 pm on Sunday will be “green” and of the Sunday, as will be Evensong.

Let us redouble our prayer for peace, justice, reconciliation and equity in our troubled world; and let us pray also for those who defend our freedom by serving in the armed forces of the Crown, and for those who put themselves in harm’s way for the sake and safety of others.

Fr Peter

Bishop Jonathan presided and preached at our High Mass for All Saints’ Day. You can watch the liturgy and hear his sermon again here.

Advent Carol Service

Our Advent Carol Service will take place on Advent Sunday, 29th November, at 6pm. Music will include Handl, Holman, Ives, Parsons, Stanford and Nicholson, as well as favourite Advent Carols.

Guests move from drinks up into the Ball Room at the Savile Club at our Gala Fundraising Dinner last Thursday.

Carol Service Volunteers

Over Advent the Parish hosts a number of carol services for visiting schools, colleges and companies. We are asking for help to serve refreshments and steward these events. Offers to Churchwarden Kate Hodgetts, please.

You can watch Monday’s High Mass for All Souls’ Day again here.

Zoom Theology

Our next online Zoom Theology session takes place on Tuesday, 24th November at 7.30pm. Professor Helen Bond will lead us in a discussion of St Mark’s Gospel.

As Advent approaches and we prepare to begin another year in the Church’s lectionary, we turn to the earliest of the four canonical Gospels. Professor Bond will introduce us to the distinctive world of St Mark’s Gospel, drawing on her book “The First Biography of Jesus: Genre and Meaning in Mark’s Gospel” to explore its portrait of Jesus, its characters and its urgent, and sometimes unsettling, narrative.

Participants are invited to read Professor Bond’s book beforehand, so that the session might lead into a conversation about how we hear and read Mark as Christians today.

Helen Bond is Professor of Christian Origins at the University of Edinburgh and a leading scholar of the historical Jesus and early Christianity. She is the author of numerous books on the New Testament, and also the co-host of the popular Biblical Time Machine podcast.

Zoom link for the seminar can be found here.

Guests take their seats at our Gala Fundraising Dinner last Thursday.

Visiting Confessors

Fr Barry Orford will be available to hear confessions on Tuesday 24th November 2026 at 11.00 am.

The parish clergy remain available to hear confessions at 6.00 pm each Saturday, before or after any Low Mass, or by appointment.

We congratulated Quentin Williams as he celebrated his 75th birthday on All Saints’ Day and retired as a member of our serving team. A presentation was made to him and Bishop Jonathan gave him a special blessing to mark the occasion.

Homeless Shelter Volunteering

Each winter, we seek to show the love of God for our neighbour by staffing the nearby over-night homeless shelter at the American Church on Tottenham Church Road. We now have the dates of the shelters which All Saints’ will be running:
11th – 12th November 2026
16th – 17th December 2026
13th – 14th January 2027
17th – 18th February 2027
10th – 11th March 2027

We have a full team for our first shift, but please be in touch with Fr Alan (assistantpriest@asms.uk) if you are able to help with December onwards.

Guests enjoy drinks together before our Gala Fundraising Dinner last Thursday.
