Having reflected in last week’s news email on our recent weekend pilgrimage to Walsingham, I am pleased to announce a number of additional opportunities for pilgrimage and retreat this autumn.
Adoremus Young Adults Pilgrimage: 22nd-24th November 2024
The first of these is the Adoremus Pilgrimage which takes place in September. This is a weekend pilgrimage specifically aimed at younger Christians who are 18-35 years old. Huw Pryce, one of our churchwardens, has attended this pilgrimage for a number of years and will be leading group of younger pilgrims this year from All Saints’.
In addition to the usual activities one would expect in a weekend pilgrimage, the weekend offers extra opportunities for faith sharing, catechesis, prayer and fellowship through a series of teaching sessions specifically focussed on the needs, interests and experiences of young adults.
The weekend begins with supper at 6.30pm on Friday 22nd November and ends with Sprinkling, Benediction and Last Visit at 2.30pm on Sunday 24th November.
The cost of the weekend is £95 per head and is being substantially subsidised by the parish to encourage younger parishioners to attend. This covers the cost of accommodation, meals and travel from Kings Lynn. Pilgrims simply have to pay for their train ticket to Kings Lynn. You can sign up here. Once you have reserved a place, our parish office will send you a PayPal link for you to pay the balance.
Walsingham Advent Retreat: 6th-8th December 2024
Just before Christmas, the Shrine offers a silent Advent retreat, which this year will take place from Friday 6th – Sunday 8th December 2024.
It has long been the practice of our parish to offer the opportunity to make a silent retreat and we last participated in this event organised by the parish two years ago.
The weekend involves arriving on Friday afternoon, and then keeping silence from Friday evening until Sunday morning.
The weekend is punctuated by a number of addresses by a retreat conductor, along with a number of devotional liturgies. The Advent retreat feels substantially different from a weekend pilgrimage and is oriented towards making time and space to reflect on the mysteries of our salvation, particularly at a time of year which can feel very busy and stressful. It makes a wonderful preparation for Christmas.
The Shrine has yet to announce who this year’s retreat conductor is, but as soon as we know, and details are available, we will let you know.

Parish Weekend Pilgrimage: 25th-28th July 2025
In addition to these pilgrimages in the autumn, don’t forget that booking is also open now for our weekend pilgrimage next summer from 25th-28th July 2025 . You can read more about it in greater detail in last week’s parish email here. The cost is £210 if you stay Friday to Sunday, and £300 if you stay Friday to Monday. This covers the cost of accommodation, meals and travel from Kings Lynn. Pilgrims simply have to pay for their train ticket to Kings Lynn. You can sign up via Eventbrite and reserve a place here. Once you have reserved a place, our parish office will send you a PayPal link for you to pay the balance at your convenience.
I am sure these pilgrimages will all offer, in varied ways, opportunities for us to return to the Lord and to deepen our relationship with him. We are so lucky to have such a high quality of preaching, catechesis, and teaching available at the Shrine. I am sure many of our parishioners will want to avail themselves of these exciting possibilities.

Calling Stewards!
Assumptiontide is fast approaching and we’re looking for stewards to help ensure the procession runs smoothly and safely. If you’re able to help on Sunday, August 11th please be in touch with Fr Alan. Evensong begins at 6pm, and there will be a briefing and walk-through at 4.30pm.
We were very pleased to welcome to All Saints’ on Sunday morning the youth wing of the Victorian Society, “The Young Victorians.” They received a special tour of our Butterfield building after the High Mass.
August Bible Study
Wednesday 7th will be our first August Bible study. The evening will start with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 6pm, followed by Mass at 6.30. We’ll eat at 7pm and study will run 7.30-8.30. Our first session will involve an introduction to the Gospel. It would be helpful to have read the entire text, and come with lots of questions and observations. All are welcome, but if you haven’t done so let Fr Alan know so he can cater accordingly.

Walking Trip to Lancing College
Fr Alan is encouraged by the strong interest in this walk.
So we’re all safe, please note the following: the walk from Shoreham to Lancing is just over 2 miles, and largely flat until the immediate ascent to the chapel. The subsequent walk to Steyning via Steyning Bowl is just under 6 miles, and involves a moderate but sustained ascent.
Taxis can be found to and from the College, but once we set out we’ll be on our feet. You are very welcome to join us for the chapel tour alone but will need to find your own way back into Shoreham.
Time permitting, Fr Mark Heather has given us permission to celebrate Mass at his wonderful St Andrew and St Cuthman’s Church. Walkers will get the bus back into Shoreham from Steyning, and those who wish to will stay for an early supper at the Red Lion.
Please let Fr Alan know so he can book. We will catch the 10.16 Littlehampton train from Victoria going out, but an open day return is best for coming home. Bring water and a packed lunch.
Last Sunday was wonderful sunny morning. It was wonderful to welcome parishioners, visitors and friends after the High Mass in our courtyard.
Visit to the Fitzrovia Chapel
Due to great demand, we have increased the number of tickets available for the forthcoming visit to the Fitzrovia Chapel to a total of 20. There now remains just one ticket left for our evening visit to the Fitzrovia Chapel on Tuesday 10th September.

The outing will begin at 7.00 pm at All Saints’. We will finish the evening with dinner at Sergio’s Italian restaurant on Great Titchfield Street (main course and pudding, plus wine). The cost of the evening – including dinner – is £35. You can sign up for this event through the following Eventbrite link here.
A huge amount of gardening work took place on Sunday afternoon in our courtyard – we are so grateful to Shawn and Daniel for all they do to make the courtyard such a place of tranquil beauty. Many thanks indeed!
