Dear friends,

I am pleased to announce the launch The American Friends of All Saints’, Margaret Street. The American Friends has been inaugurated to enable better connection, support and fellowship between the parish of All Saints, Margaret Street, London and our North American supporters. It aims to deepen the bonds of friendship across the Atlantic, foster prayer for the life and mission of All Saints’, and make financial support of All Saints’ easier and more advantageous for American tax payers.

The American Friends of All Saints’, like the members of our English scheme, will each be remembered by name at the 12 noon Mass in Margaret Street. The US Friends themselves are requested to pray each day for All Saints’.

They will each receive twice a year, by post, The Parish Paper, the biannual journal of the Friends of All Saints’, containing information, news, and updates about the life of All Saints’.

The American Friends of All Saints’ will aim to hold an in-person event somewhere in the continental United States once every two years. In between those in-person events, there will be online opportunities connecting the life of our parish in London with our supporters across the United States.

You can join the American Friends of All Saints’ at three levels.

  • Benefactors – the entry tier of the American Friends of All Saints’ involves pledging to give at least $10 a month or $120 a year to All Saints’. “Benefactors” receive the Parish Paper, and are regularly prayed for by name at the 12 noon daily Mass. Benefactors are invited to online and in person events organised for the American Friends of All Saints’.
  • Patrons – the second tier of membership of the American Friends is known as the “Patrons” of All Saints’, Margaret Street, and includes those who give at least $1,500 a year. In addition to being remembered at the 12 noon Mass at All Saints’, and receiving the Parish Paper, Patrons’ are invited to special events organised for them when in-person gatherings take place in America and the UK. They are also given a complimentary ticket to all fund-raising functions organised by the American Friends of All Saints’.
  • Partners – the third tier of the American Friends exists to recognise and celebrate exceptional generosity and sacrificial giving to the Friends Scheme. Membership of this category is open to people who contribute at least $3,000 per year to the Friends. “Partners” of All Saints’ are personally thanked for their generosity by being invited to VIP events organised specifically for Partners when All Saints’ holds in person meetings in the United States and in the United Kingdom. Partners are given two complimentary tickets to any fund-raising event organised by the American Friends of All Saints’. They and their guests are invited to be in touch with the Vicar whenever they visit London so that he can meet with them and organise appropriate hospitality.

It is now possible to give to All Saints’ in dollars and claim that donation as a deduction against tax in the United States. We have entered into a special scheme run by the firm Chapel and York, which is now fully up and running. Any charitable donation given to the All Saints’ Margaret Street fund at Chapel and York in dollars can be claimed back as a tax deduction in the US. The donation is then paid on to All Saints’ in pounds by Chapel and York.

To make a donation, you simply click on this link. From the list of organisations you can donate to, please pick “The Parochial Church Council of the Ecclesiastical Parish of All Saints.” You can then make a one off or a regular donation by PayPal or via a debit card.

If you are already a Friend of All Saints’ and live in the US, be in touch with our parish office and we can transfer your membership over to this new American scheme so you can claim your donation against tax, if you wish.

To join the American Friends of All Saints’, Margaret Street, simply set up a donation via the link to Chapel and York mentioned above (here), and send an email to our parish office (office@asms.uk) letting us know and confirming your postal address and contact details.

There will be an in person launch event in New York City in September. This will take place at 6.00 pm on Friday 20th September at the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Times Square, W 46th Street, New York City. If you would like to attend, please sign up (tickets are free) via the Eventbrite link here. I will be present along with a small handful of parishioners from All Saints’ and we would love to meet anyone who has a link with All Saints’, or who wants to connect with us for any reason.

I want to thank all those who support our parish so graciously and generously with their time, prayers and funds. Without you, our parish could not be what it is and make the impact it does for the sake of the Gospel of Christ. I pray that in Christ, the bonds of fellowship that unite us might be deepened and enriched by this new scheme and that our American supporters will feel more closely involved with our life, and united with us in prayer.

Fr Peter

Our Assumptiontide procession on Sunday evening makes its way down Oxford Street.

Walk to Lancing College – tomorrow

Fr Alan is encouraged by the strong interest in this walk which will take place next Saturday 17th August. The group will get the train to Shoreham (the 10.16 from Victoria), and take in that town’s very fine churches, before making its way to Lancing College, where we’ve kindly been offered a tour of the chapel.

Time permitting, Fr Mark Heather has given our group permission to celebrate Mass at his wonderful St Andrew and St Cuthman’s Church. Walkers will get the bus back into Shoreham from Steyning, and those who wish to will stay for an early supper at the Red Lion.

Please let Fr Alan know so he can book. We will catch the 10.16 Littlehampton train from Victoria going out, but an open day return is best for coming home. Bring water and a packed lunch.

The image of Our Lady of Walsingham is carried in procession by parishioners of All Saints’. The litter on which the image is carried is very heavy indeed – we are grateful for their heroism!

Assumption thanks

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to our keeping of the feast of the Assumption over the past week. The procession on Sunday evening was a splendid affair. So much preparation went into it, for which we are very grateful indeed – serving, music, hospitality, stewarding, live-streaming and advertising. The High Mass on the day itself was a beautiful celebration and it was good to see so many friends and visitors present with us. Many thanks indeed to all who were involved in any way!

We are hugely grateful to the group of Chelsea Pensioners who joined us for our Assumptiontide celebrations on Sunday. It was a joy to share the evening with them. They formed a guard of honour around the image of Our Lady in the procession and were a magnificent sight as we made our way through the streets of the West End. We are grateful for their presence, and for their service to our country during their time in the armed forces.

Confessions: Fr Jeremy Haselock

Fr Jeremy Haselock will be available to hear confessions at All Saints’ next Thursday 22nd August at 5.30 pm.

It was a joy to use our parish’s splendid “Coronation Monstrance” on Sunday evening. This was acquired and given to the parish last year in thanksgiving for the accession of His Majesty the King. We are grateful to newly ordained deacons Nicolas Boisson and William Allen for deaconing the procession and Benediction.

August Bible Study

There will be an evening of Bible study each Wednesday night throughout the whole month of August.

The evening starts with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 6pm, followed by Mass at 6.30. A soup supper takes place at 7pm and study will run 7.30-8.30.

It was such a joy to throw a huge parish party in our courtyard after the Procession of Our Lady on Sunday night, and to welcome parishioners, friends and visitors. An enormous thank you to everyone who helped serve refreshments and tidy up afterwards!
